It has a rich and buttery flavor, and even the fried skin can be eaten!

This seasoning recipe enhances the flavor of salmon with a smoky, savory seasoning with a touch of garlic. Don’t forget to squeeze a bit of lemon on as well!

How to Season Salmon

So many home cooks love to eat salmon. It’s also a popular menu entrée in steakhouses and seafood restaurants everywhere. But lots of us can get nervous about how to prepare salmon, especially because it can be pretty pricey. This is one all-purpose magic seasoning mix that’s sure to be a favorite!

  • Always season salmon right before cooking so the salt doesn’t begin to break down the flesh too soon.
  • We also like to sprinkle it on the flesh before baking it in the oven or pan-frying it on the stovetop.
  • Or add it to melted butter and brush on before cooking.

How to Cook Salmon

The shape and thickness of your salmon filet will determine how long it needs to cook. A thicker filet will need longer while a thinner and flatter filet will need less time.  Check your salmon early to ensure it doesn’t overcook.

Salmon should be slightly translucent in the center and flake easily with a fork. Like many types of meat, once it is removed from its heat source, it will continue to cook internally as the outside cools and seals in the juices.

  1. I have varied the ingredients slightly. I don’t add salt or the regular paprika. For the lemon zest and black pepper, I use lemon pepper seasoning. So mine is 1 tsp each of smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, an lemon pepper.

  2. Absolutely delicious! My husband and I both loved it. I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table, so I didn’t read the recipe closely enough to see that it would serve 12. I used over half of the entire recipe on TWO serving size skinless filets, coating them on both sides and then quickly frying them at about 400 on the stove top until just done. Even using way more than needed, the flavor was perfect…not bitter or overpowering. The finished fish was beautifully colored and crisped on the outside and juicy in the middle. It’s my new go-to seasoning for salmon and I’m going to try it on ling cod next. Thank you!!5 stars

    1. So happy to hear that! Glad they still turned out perfect even with a little extra spice.

  3. We did the salmon seasoning and left out the smoked parika & lemon zest … we did go with the sweet recipe by adding 1 1/2 teaspoons of brown sugar. It was the best FISH we’ve ever had.5 stars

  4. This recipe is delicious! I will be using this from here on! My only critique is that it is a teeny bit salty, I will will use half next time. Yum!! Go make it!5 stars

  5. This was delicious. The seasoning recipe is awesome. A lemony light spices taste. I did not have smoked paprika, so I substituted a mojo blend seasoning and a tsp of hot sauce.5 stars

  6. This seasoning made my salmon the best I’ve ever eaten. I added the brown sugar as suggested and air fried. Superb!5 stars

  7. My husband used this in our grilled salmon tonight and it was delightful! Next time I’ll try your brown sugar option, broiled.5 stars
