A Party Dip in Minutes

This is a little bit of a simpler and quicker version of a 7 layer dip and it’s well loved by everyone.

Taco Dip Ingredients

The creamy layer of this taco dip recipe is a mixture of cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning (option: add in a tablespoon of lime juice). Use homemade seasoning or a store-bought packet. Substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream if you’d like.

The taco dip toppings can be anything and everything you put on your usual ground beef tacos.

Try shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, green or red onions, cilantro, black olives, pico de Gallo, jalapenos, black beans, or avocado or dollops of guacamole.

Serve taco dip with tortilla chips, baked tortillas, pita bread, crackers, or even fresh vegetables!

DIP TIP:  We love to use a hand mixer for any dip with cream cheese. This adds air to the mixture and makes it fluffier and easier to scoop so your chips don’t break when you dip!

You can even change up this no meat taco dip by adding lean ground beef taco meat on top of the creamy layer.

Pro Dip Tips

  • Soften cream cheese before blending (this can be done in the microwave at 60% power for about 40 seconds or until soft).
  • Make up to 2 days ahead and chill. Top just before serving.
  • Low fat or reduced-fat products do work well in this recipe.
  • Make individual servings in mini bowls or cups (with a spoon if needed).
  • To make sure the cream cheese is perfectly dippable and scoopable beat the cream cheese with a mixer until light and fluffy.

A hand mixer works perfectly with both cold dips (like Bacon Cheddar Dip) or hot dips like our favorite Jalapeno Popper Dip.

  1. I love taco dip and have made it for years. I lived in the states for 20 years and then moved back to Sweden where nobody had ever tasted that dip! Big hit!! ❤️
I sometimes substitute the cream cheese for the other soft cheeses that have herbs or garlic in them.and mix those with the sour cream and Taco seasoning. Also very good outcome!
Always remember to pat dry your shredded lettuce after washing it though so u don’t get water in your dip… Just a little tip..

  2. Cannot wait to try this! I made up your recipe for the homemade taco seasoning. How many tablespoons would i add to this taco dip?

  3. Made this for a party last night. Everyone loved it. There were several other dips. This was the only one completely gone by end of party. (And way BEFORE the end of party. Also, it was very easy to make. Note: I don’t think this was mentioned in recipe but I let the cream cheese sit out for a while to soften before I used mixer on it. 5 stars

  4. Every time I prepare a taco dip and put shredded lettuce on top the lettuce usually get soggy by the time its served. Anyone ever experienced this problem? Suggestions?!

    1. To keep it extra crisp,I would suggest washing your lettuce and wrapping it in paper towels. Keep it in a freezer bag in the refrigerator. Chop the lettuce and place on top of the dip right before serving.

  5. I’m not a big fan of olives, but I like everything else in this dip. Perfect for a gameday party!

  6. What a great game day appetizer, thanks for sharing this recipe. I appreciate the homemade taco seasoning reference, I’m going to try that.5 stars

  7. This is a great go to dip when you need a snack or appetizer in a hurry. Really love that the top is loaded wit cheese and vegetables too.

  8. I love the sound of 5 minutes – always a winner in my books. This sounds so delicious and the flavors are perfect. Perfect game day treat.5 stars

  9. I’m all for quick and easy! Your dip looks so good! That’s a great tip about whipping the cream cheese before you layer it because who likes broken chips ;) Awesome recipe!5 stars

  10. Crazy easy is an understatement! This looks amazing. Taco anything is right up my alley. Oh, and thanks for the tip on whipping the cream cheese. I’ll have to try that!

  11. 5 minutes for taco dip?! Heck yes!! This looks so good! My hubby would love this so I’m bookmarking this for later!

  12. Been making this for years with one addition. I put salsa either all over, or maybe just over half, depending on the guests eating. An 8 oz jar works well. This goes on top of the cream cheese/sour cream layer. Under all the veges.
