What is Whipped Feta?

Ingredients/Variations

CHEESE
Feta and cream cheese are mixed together with sour cream to create this rich, creamy dip! Some brands tend to be extra salty so give your feta a good rinse before starting.

TOMATOES
Cherry tomatoes are seasoned and roasted until soft. Grape tomatoes or even small cocktail tomatoes will work great too!

VARIATIONS
Whipped feta can be customized to create a different flavor profile! Try mixing with honey for a sweeter taste, or add lemon for a zesty, tart flavor! Chopped scallions or chives add a dash of color & punch!

How to Make Whipped Feta

It’s one of the easiest and most satisfying dips to make because it just comes out so incredibly creamy and tasty!

  1. Process feta, then add other dairy ingredients, whipping until creamy. Refrigerate the mixture to allow it to thicken.
  2. Roast tomatoes with seasonings (per the recipe below).
  3. Top with roasted tomatoes & serve with warm pita wedges or crostini.

Tips for Perfect Whipped Feta

  • Brands of feta can vary greatly both in texture and in salt content. Try different brands until you find a favorite.
  • This dip is salty, the addition of Greek yogurt (or sour cream) and cream cheese round it out a bit. You can adjust the amounts to your liking.
  • I like to top it with the warm tomatoes but honey & fresh thyme is another favorite.
  • It’s best not to freeze whipped feta. Dairy is never at it’s best after defrosting, and roasted veggies are sure to lose some of their flavor and texture as well. But the good news is that this dip can definitely be made ahead and chilled, so that it’s ready to go when you are.

Whipped feta can be served with veggies for dipping, pretzel bites, seed crackers, or toasted pumpernickel or French bread.

  • Whipped feta keeps in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. It may last even longer if the topping is stored separately!
  • Feel free to microwave the tomato topping until just warm, or roast it again in the oven to enhance the flavors.

  1. Easy and delicious!!! One tip- when you go to print the recipe it’s missing the yogurt/sour cream ingredient so you’ll need to add that in.5 stars

    1. Oh no! Sorry that happened Kerilee. I find it shows up on the right hand side so it’s possible it got cut off for you. I am glad you enjoyed this recipe!

  2. Bought Feta cheese at Sams club, used it what I needed it for and still had a pound leftover…. so I searched for a recipe and came across this one! And I am SO happy that I did!!! It was delicious!!!! I left out the dill because I just don’t care for it (sorry Greeks!), and I added some lemon juice to the whipped feta to brighten it up. roasted more tomatoes than it called for, and used a general Greek seasoning blend on them. I had to make a whole other batch of tomatoes when I ate Round 2 of the feta dip a few days later because I had eaten all of them!! This was amazing – thank you SO much for the inspiration!

  3. Any tips for doing this with a blender instead of a food processor?

    1. I haven’t tried it in a blender but it should work out ok. You might need to stop a few times and give it a little stir to ensure it comes out smooth.

  4. Wow! I had this at a restaurant last week, & thought, ‘bet I could do this better’….Well with the help of this great recipe, I DID do it better! Thanks so much!5 stars
